Hi friends, and Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Ours ended up being wonderful! It was the perfect mix of busy and rest. Don’t you love it when that happens?
I didn’t get near enough of the things on my “to-do” list done that I wanted to, but I spent a wonderful weekend truly enjoying some quality time with my husband and soaking up some togetherness. That’s what it’s all about, in the long run.
Friday was the typical work, followed by what I thought was going to be an evening spent alone. John played in a tennis tournament this weekend and due to rain, his Friday afternoon match was pushed back until Friday evening. I planned to get a few chores done around the house and treat myself to a pedicure before heading home to a dinner of leftovers while enjoying some girly shows on tv.
shredded chicken + mashed avocado + mozzarella all wrapped up in a tortilla = perfection!
But, much to my surprise and delight, John called to say that matches and been cancelled for the evening and he was headed home. I was excited to get to spend the evening with my hubby!
Saturday began bright and early as we headed off to the tennis courts for John’s 9:30 am match. Since he needed to be there about an hour ahead of time, and the courts are a good 20 miles from our house, we needed to leave earlier, rather than later.
I also enjoyed a little light reading during warm-ups…
Following the first match we grabbed some food from Newk’s Cafe and found a gorgeous park in the middle of downtown Montgomery to have a picnic. It was the perfect day for it! Warm, sunny, and absolutely gorgeous!
I’d been longing to be outside all week. I’d look through my classroom windows and rack my brain for an activity we could take outside! I totally get the kids’ inability to focus during this time of the year.
Following our lunch we walked around the nearby outdoor shopping mall for a while before heading back to the courts for John’s afternoon match. Unfortunately (fortunately?) I didn’t find anything I couldn’t live without, so our bank account was safe.
John won his match!
We stopped by the first “Second Saturday” of the year on the way home. The city of Montgomery throws a big bash along the river walk (an outdoor venue on the Alabama River) each month on the second Saturday of the month. There are food vendors, fun games and face painting for the kids, and a live band at the amphitheater. It’s a great community event that brings lots of people out to socialize and enjoy.
We didn’t stay long, but it was fun to soak it all up for a bit.
John and I ended our evening watching our newest favorite TV show. I DVR’d the series Secrets and Lies (on ABC I think). We never watched it until this weekend, and it’s safe to say we are now hooked. It’s so good!
John had another early match on Sunday. After he left I ate breakfast and got on the yard work. I figured I could get the grass cut while he was gone so that we could spend the rest of the day together instead of working in the yard.
I felt so accomplished. By the time 10am rolled around, I and the yard done, laundry going, kitchen cleaned up, and was hopping in the shower. Score!
We opted for lunch out at Panera to use a gift card we’ve had since Valentine’s Day. Thanks mom!
After lunch we got the grocery shopping out of the way. Once we got home I prepped dinner in the crockpot…Buffalo Turkey Meatballs. (I’m typing this pre-dinner, so if it’s a winner, I’ll be sure to share!)
Edited to add: Totally had intentions of sharing a picture with you. Guess I was too hungry, oops! But they were delicious! We both loved ’em!
We headed out the door once again to make it to an afternoon matinee movie! I couldn’t tell you the last time I saw a movie in the theater. I dragged John to see The Longest Ride. I wasn’t too sure I’d like it after reading reviews. But I should learn not to trust the reviews. I LOVED it!!! I’m a romantic at heart, so it’s really no surprise. But it kept me engaged the whole time. I definitely recommend it!
We’re home now, and I’m about to pack up my lunch for tomorrow, hop in the shower, and enjoy a (fingers crossed) delicious dinner!
1. What’s the last movie you saw in theaters?
2. What type of movies do you like? Romantic movies are always a win, but I love a good comedy or drama as well.
3. What’s your go-to crockpot meal?
